Default How populated is Guild Wars these days?

I bought prophecies 2 years ago, and never really got into it. Now, I'm thinking of really getting into guild wars and buying the other campaigns. How populated is the game these days? Is it still worth getting into?

You might want to edit & close your other thread on this subject.

As of Dec 2008, there are 5.8 million activated accounts for Guild Wars with more people buying the game daily. In game, it depends on the time of day and the location as to how many people are around for quests and missions.

The game population is spread out over three campaigns and the expansion with mulitple servers by area and language, so it's hard to estimate.

It really depends on where you go. There's close to 6 million activated accounts, but of course, they're spread across 4 games and multiple country's servers. There's a handful of cities that are nearly always empty because they're out of the way or unimportant. There's a handful of cities that are like beehives with multiple districts because they're gateways to elite areas or popular farming spots or are trading centers or important in their own right. Most places are somewhere in between. GW is far from empty these days.

Some of the boring missions will have very little people there, if at all, but you should have no problems finding groups, especially in the low level areas. Just get used to using henchman because finding a full group can be a bit tricky because of the different classes you need.

back in proph days hench were never used...
full parties to go around...

i seriously feel as if the active player base has decreased in either number or communal play...
or maybe players are just more spread out now because of all the campaigns.

my friends list barely warrants any use nowadays...i have maybe 5 players at most that I regularly talk to, and I don't play with any player besides my RL friend regularly lol.

Okay. I'm still a little wary about the actual number of active players...

What do you have to lose? You already own the game, get back into it and see what it is like.

If you don't own it but tried someone else's then take the plunge. There are plenty of people and if you join a guild then even more.

Yea large guilds are always trying to get larger, and alliances sometimes have hundreds of members. My guild Fire And [Ice] is always looking for new talent at any level of prestiege in the game. I'd say daily on weekdays 100-200 thousand peek, 250-450 thousand people across all campaigns on weekends. I dont know if that looks to big of a number or to small but I'm just guestimateing.

Activated means the total accounts created. Of those, take out the XHT accounts and the inactive accounts. There's certainly not 6 million players ingame.

the number 6 million is very misleading. there are plenty of people that are just afk at certain areas, mainly major trading centers. also there are people who only play PvP thus you wont see them at all. also as mentioned there are 4 different campaigns, or 3 and an expansion, blahblahblah. also you want the number of active users to determine how easy it will be for you to get in groups, so an important factor to keep in mind is that a lot of people stick to H&H(Hero and Henchmen) groups which to you means they go solo. moreover there are areas that are pretty much abandoned as there isnt anything interesting to do in there, mainly in Prophecies which is the first campaign that most people already beat plenty of times. places like Henge of Denravi for example are usually empty(with 0 people that is) in most servers(Europe, America, etc). heck even places like Gyala Hatchery(Factions, Jade Sea, Luxon mission area) are sometimes completely empty, and those are places with an actual mission to do not some random outpost.

despite all this negativism there is still light at the end of the tunnel. there are still enough people in most places and PuG(pick up groups) do form. so if you're like me and likes to play with others instead of just H&Hing everything than you will still find people to play with, even if it takes a bit longer and can sometimes be frustrating. you always have the option to go H&H yourself(if you get either Factions, EotN or both) so you get access to heroes.

you can also try the various PvP arenas, be it Fort Aspenwood and Jade Quarry that are more PvE to Random Arenas and Alliance Battles that are just chaotic PvP to organized arenas as Team Arenas, Heroe's Ascent and Guild vs Guild battles.

mixing up the 2, mainly PvE and low level PvP can keep you interested and make sure you have something to do at any hour of the day.

Once you get into a guild you won't have any trouble getting a group for any mission.

while it seems as though people with double accounts boost those numbers a bunch, think about it. At least the game is active and people like it right? I mean, people wouldn't purchase a mule account if they didn't like the game, and if they didn't like it a lot.

GW is a fine game. There is still no other free MMO to compare it to.
